
The first activity of the Movement was the National Women’s Land Rights
Conference attended by an estimated 400 participants mostly drawn from the grassroots, the academia, legal institutions, and Government. The Overall Theme of the Conference was “Equality is not Equality of Outcomes but Equality of Resources, Rights and Voice”. The key objective of the Conference was to raise a common voice for women to enable them demand for the realization and recognition of their rights to land. The Conference also provided a platform for women from different regions and status to share their challenges and experiences on land; Explore advocacy opportunities for practice change; and rejuvenate the women’s movement on land that has a stronghold at the grassroots, spreading its strength to the national level.
The Women’s Movement was officially launched by His Excellency the President of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, represented at the Conference by the State Minister for Finance Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu.
